About this position
Chalmers University of Technology is advertising a postdoctoral position in far-infrared semiconductor electronics within the Division of Terahertz and Millimetre Wave, Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The position is part of the ERC project Far-infrared (FIR) semiconductor electronics, which aims to develop frontier semiconductor terahertz electronics for far-infrared space instruments. The project targets high-sensitivity, stable receivers with substantially lower power consumption than current state of the art in the 2–5 THz range, with a long-term vision of enabling future atmospheric science missions that depend on FIR/THz heterodyne receiver solutions.
The research environment at Chalmers is described as international, cross-disciplinary, and closely connected to world-class nanofabrication facilities. The broader department works across quantum technology, nanoscience, photonics, and future electronic systems, offering a strong setting for research and collaboration across academia, industry, and society.
The postdoc will work toward demonstrating semiconductor-based antenna-integrated receivers for the far-infrared region. Duties include research in terahertz technology and experimental characterisation, with some opportunity to supervise master’s and/or PhD students and to contribute to teaching at undergraduate or master’s level. The role is positioned as valuable preparation for future careers in academia, industry, or the public sector.
Eligibility requirements include a doctoral degree or equivalent foreign degree, strong English communication skills, and experience in terahertz technology and experimental techniques. Applicants are also expected to have some teaching familiarity and strong potential in research and education. Desirable experience includes a recent doctorate (within the last three years), antenna theory and design, and semiconductor device technology.
The appointment is a temporary full-time position for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension. Physical presence throughout the employment is required, and a valid residence permit must be presented by the start date.
