About this position
Postdoc in Host-Microbiome Multi-omic Data Science at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense M, Denmark.
This 3-year postdoc (with possible extension) is based in the Arumugam Group, Research Unit of Medical Gastroenterology, Department of Clinical Research, Faculty of Health Sciences. The project focuses on host-microbiome multi-omics and data science, integrating microbiome and host data from consortium projects in human and animal health.
Research areas include metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, viral metagenomics, metabolomics, metaproteomics, genetics, proteomics, circulating metabolomics, and advanced computational methods such as deep learning, autoencoders, graph neural networks, explainable AI, and biologically informed machine learning.
The successful candidate will improve and expand current deep learning approaches, contribute to ongoing consortium projects, collaborate with clinical researchers, veterinarians, biologists, and bioinformaticians, and may initiate new research directions.
Applicants must have a PhD in computer science/informatics, mathematics, physics, bioinformatics, or biology, plus strong software development experience. Required skills include machine learning, statistical analysis, Python/NumPy/PyTorch/TensorFlow, UNIX/HPC experience, teamwork, scientific productivity, and excellent English. Preferred experience includes biological applications of deep learning, disease biology or microbiology, metagenomic and multi-omics analysis, cloud/distributed computing, and supervision experience.
