About this position

Postdoc in Microbiome Bioinformatics Workflows at the University of Southern Denmark, within the Arumugam Group, Research Unit of Medical Gastroenterology, Department of Clinical Research, Faculty of Health Sciences.

This is a 3-year, full-time postdoctoral position (with possible extension) focused on developing and expanding computational workflows for large-scale microbiome multi-omics analysis. The work supports projects on human and animal health, including the PIG-PARADIGM consortium on antimicrobial resistance in pig production and the EU Horizon 2020 MICROB-PREDICT project.

Research topics include metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, viral metagenomics, metabolomics, metaproteomics, scalable bioinformatics pipelines, and integration of multi-omics data. The group’s existing MIntO package integrates microbiome metagenomic and metatranscriptomic data, and the successful candidate will improve current workflows and help create new ones.

Applicants must have a PhD in bioinformatics or biology, strong software development and programming skills (Python and/or R), experience with biological statistics, workflow tools such as Snakemake/Nextflow/CWL, next-generation sequencing analysis, and HPC/UNIX environments. Strong teamwork, publication record, and excellent English are required. Preferred experience includes microbiology, disease biology, host-associated microbiota, metabolomics/proteomics, cloud/distributed computing, and supervision experience.

The position is based in Odense M, Denmark. Salary follows the Danish state scale with a postdoc allowance and possible additional allowances. Foreign applicants may receive Danish language training.

Apply electronically via the SDU career portal by the deadline. Submit a motivation letter, CV, degree certificates, publication list, three selected publications, teaching portfolio, research experience description, and other relevant qualifications. Applications must be in English.
