About this position

Chalmers University of Technology is advertising a postdoctoral position in hydrogen infrastructure in energy systems at the Division of Energy Technology, Department of Environmental and Energy Sciences in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The project focuses on the role of hydrogen as an energy carrier in the energy transition. The successful candidate will work on integrating hydrogen demand, production, distribution, and storage into an existing high-resolution Nordic energy system model. A key research aim is to understand the value of hydrogen infrastructure at different geographical levels and how it interacts with the electricity system. The work is techno-economic and highly relevant to sustainable energy systems, renewable energy integration, and electrification of new sectors.

The postdoc will join a collaborative research environment with senior researchers, postdocs, and PhD students. The group has strong experience in energy systems analysis and model methodology development, and participates in major projects such as Mistra Electrification and North European Power Perspective. The research is also embedded in an interdisciplinary EU project, H2 Valley, with opportunities to collaborate with social scientists and legal researchers, as well as industry and societal partners.

Eligibility requirements include a doctoral degree in energy systems, power systems, industrial systems, or a closely related field; strong English communication skills; and experience in energy systems modeling and analysis. Experience in modeling methodology, hydrogen infrastructure modeling (pipelines and/or storage), and interdisciplinary teamwork will strengthen an application. The role also expects some teaching experience and offers opportunities to supervise master’s and/or PhD students to a limited extent and to teach at undergraduate/master’s level.

The appointment is a full-time temporary postdoc for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension. Physical presence throughout the employment is required, and a valid residence permit must be shown by the start date. Chalmers offers employee benefits, a dynamic working environment in Gothenburg, and a strong equality and inclusion culture.

Application deadline: 2026-10-01. Applications must be written in English and submitted as PDF files through the online application system. The application should include a CV with publications and teaching/pedagogical experience, and a personal letter describing research background, outcomes, and future goals. Email applications and incomplete submissions will not be considered.
