About this position
Postdoctoral position at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden in Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) and metal additive manufacturing, with a focus on electron beam powder bed fusion (PBF-EB).
The project is hosted by the School of Industrial Engineering and Management and based at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, within the XPRES Centre of Excellence in Production Research. The research environment brings together KTH, Mälardalen University, RISE, and Swerim in collaboration with industry to advance sustainable, digitalized, and human-centric manufacturing.
The postdoc will study process-microstructure-property relationships in complex metal components. The work combines modeling, process data, and experimental characterization to understand how process strategy, geometry, and thermal history affect local microstructure, material properties, and structural integrity. Depending on background, tasks may include materials modeling, process modeling, microstructure modeling, process-data analysis, materials characterization, and mechanical testing.
Eligibility and preferred profile: a doctoral degree (or equivalent) is required by the time the employment decision is made. The ad seeks candidates with research expertise in materials science, materials engineering, mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a closely related area. Strong experience in metallic materials, additive manufacturing, rapid solidification, computational materials science, or related methods is expected, along with the ability to connect computational/theoretical work with experimental data. Preferred experience includes ICME, CALPHAD, powder bed fusion, and combining modeling with experiments.
Funding and duration: the appointment is a temporary postdoctoral position for up to two years. The announcement does not specify a stipend amount.
How to apply: submit the application through KTH’s recruitment system. Required documents include a CV, copies of diplomas and grades, and a brief statement describing why you want to conduct research, your academic interests, and how they relate to your previous studies and future goals (maximum two pages).
Deadline: 2026-11-20. Work location: Stockholm, Sweden.
