About this position

Postdoc in Microgrids for AI Data Centers at KTH Royal Institute of Technology

This postdoctoral position at KTH Royal Institute of Technology focuses on the design, modeling, control, and management of microgrids for AI data centers. The research is motivated by the rapidly growing energy demand of artificial intelligence infrastructure and the need for reliable, resilient, and energy-efficient power supply solutions. A key context for the project is the emerging use of Arctic and sub-Arctic locations for data centers, where naturally cold climates can reduce cooling loads and create new opportunities for sustainable operation.

The project is funded by the Swedish Energy Agency and carried out in close collaboration with Arjeplog Municipality, providing access to a real-world Arctic test environment. The work sits at the intersection of microgrids, power systems, power electronics, and control, with relevance to next-generation energy infrastructure for digital services.

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree by the time the employment decision is made. The ideal candidate will have strong research expertise in microgrids, power systems, or power electronics, along with strong power electronic hardware skills or solid programming skills. Preferred qualifications include a recent PhD, experience with AI data center power systems, microgrids, solid state transformers, DC/DC converters, inverters, modeling and stability analysis, hardware development, or real-time simulation.

The appointment is a temporary full-time postdoctoral position for up to two years. KTH emphasizes academic excellence, sustainability, equality, diversity, and equal opportunities. The position also notes that personal skills are important and that applicants should be aware of diversity and gender equality considerations.

To apply, candidates must use KTH’s recruitment system and submit a complete application including a CV, copies of diplomas and grades, translations into English or Swedish if needed, a two-page research statement on previous achievements, and a three-page research plan. The deadline for applications is 2026-08-11.
