Chalmers University of Technology is advertising a fully funded doctoral student position in power electronics for integrated control within the Division of Electric Power Engineering in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The project is aimed at the future of electrified off-road vehicles and focuses on developing an innovative embedded control structure for centralized control of onboard power electronics devices. The research combines power electronics, control architecture, software design, and hardware dimensioning for a vehicle platform. The doctoral student will investigate how a controller can support multiple functions such as traction, charging, and voltage conversion, and will verify proposed solutions using real-time simulation, HIL, and prototype experiments.
The Division of Electric Power Engineering carries out research across electric power technology with strong theoretical and experimental foundations. Within the Electrical Machines and Power Electronics research unit, current topics include electrical machines, traction inverters, high-frequency power electronics and charging, electric drive systems, and battery energy storage. The position is embedded in a collaborative environment with academic and industrial partners.
Funding: the position is fully funded from the start. The appointment is fixed-term for four years, with the possibility of up to one additional year depending on teaching duties. The starting salary is 35,725 SEK per month.
Eligibility and requirements: applicants must have a Master’s degree with 120 credits in electrical engineering, with power electronics and control as the main direction. Strong knowledge of traction inverters/motors, DC/DC converters, and on-board chargers is required, along with practical prototyping and experimental testing experience in power electronics and control systems. Experience with embedded systems, DSP, multicore processors, collaboration with industrial experts, and documented publications will strengthen the application.
Teaching and training: the doctoral student will take advanced courses in the Graduate School of Electrical Engineering, develop independent scientific ideas, publish research results, and may serve as a teaching assistant for up to 20% of working time.
