About this position
Postdoc opportunity at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU Health Tech) in Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark.
This position focuses on micromotor technologies, biofilm disruption, drug delivery, nanomedicine, and biomedical engineering, with a highly interdisciplinary project on Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS). The successful candidate will work within the IDUN research section to develop near-infrared (NIR) light-activated micromotors that can penetrate and disrupt biofilms in confined HS lesions and improve local therapeutic efficacy.
Research activities include design and fabrication of micromotors, characterization of propulsion and stability, evaluation of penetration and drug release in biofilm-relevant environments, in vitro testing of biofilm disruption and local drug delivery, and contribution to in vivo validation in HS or biofilm-associated disease models. The role also includes co-supervision of MSc/PhD students and dissemination through publications and conferences.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD degree (or equivalent) in pharmaceutical sciences, nanotechnology, chemistry, materials science, biomedical engineering, or a closely related field; strong hands-on experience in micro/nanotechnology; experience with functional materials, surface engineering, drug delivery, biofilms, bacterial models, antimicrobial studies, or NIR-responsive systems is highly relevant.
Employment details: full-time postdoc for 2 years, starting 1 February 2027 or by mutual agreement. Salary follows the DTU collective agreement, with possible supplements. No scholarship is mentioned; this is a paid research position.
Application deadline: 26 October 2026, 23:59 Danish time. Apply online by submitting one PDF containing a cover letter, CV, academic diplomas (MSc/PhD in English), and publication list.

What's required
Applicants must hold a PhD degree or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences, nanotechnology, chemistry, materials science, biomedical engineering, or a closely related field. Strong hands-on experience in micro- and nanotechnology is required, especially in the design, fabrication, and experimental characterization of micro- and/or nanomotors. A solid background in functional materials, surface engineering, drug delivery, or related biomedical applications is highly desirable. Experience with light-responsive materials and near-infrared (NIR) activated systems is an advantage. Experience with biofilms, bacterial models, drug penetration, or antimicrobial studies is highly relevant, and prior exposure to ex vivo tissue models or in vivo studies is an advantage. The candidate should be independent, highly motivated, have a strong publication record, and be able to work in a highly interdisciplinary environment.
