About this position
Postdoc opportunity at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in modelling of electrochemical recovery of nitrogen vectors from wastewater.
This position is part of the EU-funded eLitre project, focused on electrochemical recovery of nitrogen species from wastewater and their conversion into ammonia for circular nutrient reuse. The project sits within the Process Systems Engineering (PSE) section of the Chemical Engineering Department at TU Delft and connects chemical engineering, environmental science, wastewater treatment, and sustainability assessment.
The postdoc will develop models of the eLitre technology and perform techno-economic assessment and life cycle assessment to compare technology configurations under different scenarios. The work will evaluate nitrate removal and recyclability in the context of the EU Nitrates Directive, using experimental observations from the project to build KPI-informed models. The aim is to quantify cost and environmental impact and support the pathway toward viable water circularity and nutrient recovery.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD in chemical engineering or a similar field; experience in process modelling, techno-economic assessment, and life cycle assessment; and interest in electrochemical processes.
Funding and conditions: 3-year temporary contract; 38–40 hours per week; salary range €3546–€5538; benefits according to the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities; pension scheme, leave hours, training opportunities, and relocation support mentioned.
How to apply: submit your application online via the application button by 31 August 2026. Upload a CV and motivational letter, and address the application to Dr. Ana Somoza-Tornos. Email applications are not accepted.
