About this position

PhD position at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Circular PSE group and the Process Systems Engineering (PSE) section, focused on chemical engineering, process modelling, process optimization, techno-economic analysis, life cycle assessment, and sustainable process design.

The project is part of the NWA-ORC funded consortium project ABEL, which aims to valorize low-grade biogenic waste into higher-value products beyond biofuels/biogas. The research will address design and scale-up of novel processes, transition pathways for integration into existing or new value chains, energy and resource efficiency, waste heat recovery, and environmental impact reduction.

You will validate models using literature and consortium data and apply them in case studies defined by the consortium. The PhD joins a research environment working on the de-fossilization of the chemical industry and emerging technologies for circular carbon use.

Eligibility highlights: MSc in chemical engineering or a similar field; strong background in chemical process modelling and design; process optimization experience desirable; techno-economic analysis and life cycle assessment experience desirable but not required; strong collaboration, communication, and writing skills.

Funding and conditions: 4-year doctoral employment in principle, with an initial 1.5-year contract and a 2.5-year extension subject to a go/no-go assessment. Salary is €3059–€3881 gross per month, plus 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus. TU Delft also offers health insurance discounts and a monthly work costs contribution.

Application deadline: 31 August 2026. Apply online and upload your CV, cover letter, and copies of your degrees and BSc/MSc transcripts. For questions, contact [email protected].
