About this position

Postdoc opportunity in Molecular Plant Biology at the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research (MPIPZ), Cologne, Germany. The Wallner group in the Department of Comparative Development and Genetics is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to study tissue patterning, polarity, and body-axis formation during sporeling development in the liverwort Marchantia polymorpha.

The project focuses on how the first flat body structure, the prothallus, develops from a single-celled spore and establishes dorsoventrality de novo in response to light. The successful candidate will investigate the regulatory network of dorsoventral tissue development using state-of-the-art genetic and biochemical approaches, including proximity labelling, ChIP-seq/DAP-seq, and CRISPR mutant analysis. Confocal microscopy, image analysis, and collaboration with local facilities are encouraged.

Experience with confocal microscopy, bryophytes, and publication/conference track record are advantageous. Excellent English, reproducibility, teamwork, and interest in postdoc fellowship applications are emphasized.

Funding and contract: the position is initially for 2 years, with remuneration according to TVöD Bund and social benefits in line with the public sector.
