About this position
TU Delft is advertising a Postdoc in MRI Physics in the Faculty of Applied Sciences, based in Delft, Netherlands. The project explores the interface of acoustics, spin dynamics, and magnetic resonance relaxation to develop a new MRI contrast mechanism sensitive to microscopic magnetic-field inhomogeneities and susceptibility-induced field variations.
The postdoctoral researcher will lead theoretical and experimental work, including MR experiment design, pulse-sequence development, spin-dynamics and relaxation modeling, data analysis, and interpretation of the physical mechanisms. Depending on background and interests, the work may also involve acoustic hardware, numerical simulations, phantom development, and translation toward biomedical imaging applications.
This is an interdisciplinary opportunity in an MRI research environment with collaboration across MR physics, engineering, and biomedical imaging. The role also includes scientific publications, conference presentations, and supervision of junior researchers.
Requirements: a PhD in physics, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, medical physics, or a closely related field; strong MRI/NMR/spin-physics background; experience with experimental research and quantitative analysis; desirable experience in pulse-sequence development, spin simulations, or MR signal modeling; strong programming skills (Python, MATLAB, C/C++, or similar); and strong communication skills. Experience with acoustics, ultrasound, susceptibility effects, magnetic-field modeling, or MR hardware is a plus.
Funding and terms: 21-month temporary postdoc, 36–40 hours per week, salary range €3706–€5760, with standard Dutch university employment benefits. The project is EU funded (VascularID, ERC-2022-STG).
Application deadline: 23 September 2026. Apply online with a CV and motivational letter, addressed to Sebastian Weingärtner.
