About this position
Postdoc opportunity at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in multi-scale mechanobiological cardiac growth and remodelling.
This full-time, on-site postdoctoral position is based in Delft, Netherlands, in the lab of dr. ir. M. Peirlinck in the Department of BioMechanical Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The project is part of VITAL: Virtual Twins as Tools for Personalized Clinical Care, a European Union-funded Horizon Europe consortium focused on virtual human twins for personalized cardiovascular care.
The research centers on cardiac growth and remodeling, cardiovascular biomechanics, mechanobiology, finite element modeling, and computational mechanics. The successful candidate will develop bio-chemo-mechanical and constituent-specific remodeling laws, implement them in finite element cardiac mechanics frameworks, and couple tissue-level mechanics with systemic hemodynamic and neurohumoral inputs. The role also includes patient-specific calibration, uncertainty-aware parameter estimation, surrogate modeling, reduced-order modeling, and scientific software development.
Applicants should have a PhD in mechanical engineering, applied mathematics, computational science, biophysics, biomedical engineering, or a closely related field. Strong skills in nonlinear continuum mechanics, tensor algebra, finite element modeling, computational solid mechanics, and scientific programming are required. Experience with cardiovascular biomechanics, growth and remodeling theory, Abaqus, deal.II, FEniCS, JAX-FEM, uncertainty quantification, Bayesian inference, inverse modeling, HPC, or machine-learning-assisted computational mechanics is welcome.
The position is funded through the EU Horizon Europe project VITAL and offers a salary in the Dutch university scale, with standard benefits. The initial contract is for one year, with a possible extension depending on progress and project conditions.

What's required
