About this position

Postdoctoral Researcher opportunity at the University of Luxembourg, within the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) and the Legato group, in collaboration with ARSPECTRA.

This role sits at the intersection of machine learning, uncertainty quantification, computational biomechanics, and medical guidance. The successful candidate will design and deploy probabilistic surrogate models for high-fidelity biomechanical simulations, with a focus on real-time support for neurosurgeons. Research tasks include Bayesian graph neural networks, convolutional neural networks, uncertainty propagation, model selection and switching, and integration with physics-based solvers such as SOFA, FEniCSx, and SOniCS.

The position also involves deployment on ARSPECTRA hardware, including optimisation for embedded and GPU platforms, and collaboration on an augmented-reality guidance pipeline covering tracking, SLAM, gaze, and user interface components.

Eligibility highlights: PhD in machine learning, computational mechanics, computer science, applied mathematics, or a related area; strong deep learning and probabilistic modelling experience; familiarity with graph neural networks, convolutional architectures, and surrogate modelling for physical systems; understanding of PDE-based models; and an advantage for candidates with real-time/edge deployment experience (CUDA, ONNX, TensorRT, FPGA).

Funding and contract: fixed-term full-time postdoctoral contract for 12 months. The post states a yearly gross salary of EUR 85,176 for postdoctoral researchers at the University of Luxembourg.

Location: Belval Campus, Luxembourg.

How to apply: Apply online through the HR system only. Submit a CV, cover letter, PhD diploma or expected defense date, transcript of university-level courses, and a list of publications. Email applications will not be considered. Early application is encouraged because applications are processed upon reception.
