About this position
Postdoc in novel ion-channel engineering at Linköping University, Sweden.
This postdoctoral position is in the Pantazis group and sits at the interface of ion-channel biophysics, protein engineering, electrophysiology, molecular biology, computational modeling, and cellular excitability. The project aims to engineer novel voltage-gated ion channels to create new ways of tuning cell electrical activity, with applications in neurobiology and cardiac electrophysiology.
The successful candidate will join an internationally recognized ion-channel research environment and take scientific ownership of a high-risk, high-reward project with potential for high-impact publications, intellectual property generation, and preparation for an independent research career. The role may also include collaborative work in the group, supervision of short-term undergraduate students, and shared lab duties such as frog oocyte preparation and training new lab members.
Eligibility and requirements: applicants must hold a doctoral degree or equivalent from a university other than Linköping University, normally awarded within the last three years unless special grounds apply. Required experience includes a strong mechanistic understanding of ion channels, experimental electrophysiology, molecular cloning, basic calculus for modeling ion-channel function and cell excitability, and excellent English communication skills. Protein engineering experience and ambition to become an independent group leader are considered meritorious.
Funding and employment: the position is funded by the Högbom-Cocozza Research Foundation. It is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for three years with a salary of SEK 43,000 per month. The foundation may also support 6–12 months at a higher education institution abroad, and before the third year the postdoc may apply for an independent research grant of approximately SEK 500,000.
Application deadline: 30 November 2026. Apply through the university’s online portal and submit the required documents and selected publications before the deadline.
