About this position

Postdoctoral position in physical and theoretical chemistry at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), Department of Quantum Nanoscience, focused on electronic structure, spin-orbit coupling, scalar relativistic effects, and lanthanide-containing molecular and periodic systems.

The project aims to extend equation-of-motion coupled-cluster (EOM-CC) methods to lanthanide molecular magnets and related quantum materials. The work includes treatment of electron correlation, two-step state-interaction SOC, and spin-free exact two-component theory (SFX2C-1e), with validation against benchmark systems and possible extension to embedded or periodic calculations.

This is a 2-year postdoc at TU Delft in the Faculty of Applied Sciences / Department of Quantum Nanoscience. The position is physically located in the Netherlands.

Eligibility highlights: PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field; strong background in electronic structure and molecular simulations; experience with post-Hartree-Fock methods, ideally CC/EOM-CC and quantum embedding; knowledge of lanthanide or heavy-metal chemistry and spin-related effects; scientific programming skills; strong analytical and communication abilities.

Application deadline: 24 August 2026. Applicants should apply online and upload a cover letter, CV, link to PhD thesis with brief research summary, and two relevant publications. Applications by email or post will not be processed.

Contact: Maristella Alessio ([email protected]).
