About this position
KU Leuven is offering a postdoctoral position in plant systems biology for research on climate change resilience and disease resistance within the Division of Crop Biotechnics (Department of Biosystems).
The position is hosted by the labs of Prof. Devang Mehta and Prof. Hervé Vanderschuren, who work in experimental plant systems biology and tropical plant biotechnology. The project environment includes access to long-read sequencing, proteomics mass spectrometry, and the Leuven Institute for Single-Cell Omics and Leuven Plant Institute.
Research themes include: (1) nucleoprotein interaction proteomics to engineer non-insecticidal solutions for plant viral diseases in sugar beet and tomato; and (2) the role of the plant circadian clock in latitudinal adaptation and climate-resilient crop breeding, using directed evolution, environmental simulation systems, and multi-omics approaches.
Applicants should hold a PhD in Biology, Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, Synthetic Biology, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, or a related field. Strong English writing and communication skills are expected, along with molecular biology and/or biochemistry experience, intermediate programming or data-analysis skills (or willingness to develop them), and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary, international team.
The appointment is full-time for 2 years, with a possible extension after a positive first-year evaluation. The post is grant-funded and includes mentorship, conference support, and publication support. No stipend amount is stated.
Location: Leuven, Belgium. Deadline: 1 December 2026 at 23:59 CET. Apply via the KU Leuven online application tool.
