About this position

VIB-KU Leuven Center for Microbiology in Leuven, Belgium is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher in computational genomics, bioinformatics, and high-throughput genome editing. The project focuses on how synonymous mutations can influence gene expression and cellular phenotypes, using large-scale synonymous saturation mutagenesis libraries and multiple reporter readouts.

The lab develops high-throughput CRISPR technologies, including MAGESTIC, to engineer thousands of defined mutations in parallel and connect genotype to phenotype through barcode-based screening. The successful candidate will work at the interface of functional genomics, systems biology, machine learning, and statistical modeling, turning multidimensional datasets into biological insight and predictive models.

Applicants should have a PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, systems biology, genomics, computer science, or a related quantitative field. Strong experience with large-scale data integration and advanced computational/statistical methods is expected; experience with high-throughput mutagenesis data is helpful but not mandatory. Excellent English and a collaborative mindset are emphasized.

The position is a 2-year full-time contract with an internationally competitive salary and benefits. VIB also provides training, leadership development, and grant-writing support for researchers interested in postdoctoral fellowships.

Applications are submitted via the VIB job portal. Include a CV, a 1-page motivation letter, and contact details for at least two referees. The deadline is 15 December 2026, or until the position is filled.
