About this position
Postdoctoral position at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) in Italy on quantum computing algorithms for biological systems. The project sits at the interface of physics, chemistry, computer science, and biology, with a strong focus on computational chemistry, molecular simulations, quantum chemistry, and biophysics.
The selected researcher will join the Multiscale and Quantum Simulations unit coordinated by Dr. Sauro Succi and the Molecular Modeling and Drug Discovery unit coordinated by Dr. Marco De Vivo. The work involves developing, implementing, and benchmarking quantum algorithms for chemically relevant problems, integrating them with classical and ab initio methods, and using state-of-the-art quantum software and hardware platforms.
Key tasks include algorithm development, molecular modeling, atomistic simulations, evaluation of classical versus quantum approaches, reproducible analysis, scientific documentation, and collaboration in an interdisciplinary environment. The post is based at IIT Genova/Roma.
Applicants must hold a PhD in chemistry, physics, or a related discipline. Strong background in computational chemistry, molecular simulations, quantum chemistry, computational physics, or computer science is expected. Experience or interest in quantum computing, scientific programming (e.g. Python), high-performance computing, method development, and scripting is highly desirable. Excellent English and documented MD simulation/coding experience are required.
The contract is 1 year + 1 year, renewable by mutual agreement. Salary is EUR 45,000–55,000 gross per year, with private health care coverage depending on role and contract. The application deadline is 15 October 2026. Apply online with a CV, cover letter, and two reference letters.
