About this position

KTH Royal Institute of Technology is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for the Swedish Research Council-funded SMILE project (Soundscape engineering with Metamaterial Innovation and LEarning) within the Division of Vehicle Engineering and Technical Acoustics.

The project combines soundscape targets, acoustic metamaterials, physical modelling, inverse design, machine learning and perceptual evaluation to develop new acoustic design methods. The postdoc will work on models and design methods for acoustic metamaterials and metasurfaces, simulation and data-driven optimization, and contribute to listening tests and VR-based soundscape evaluation. The role may also involve building or testing prototypes, publishing research results, and contributing to coordination and supervision.

The position is full time and temporary for up to two years. Teaching may be included, but will not exceed 20% of working hours. The appointment is based in Stockholm at KTH, a leading international technical university with a strong focus on innovation, sustainability, and equality.

Applicants must hold a doctoral degree or equivalent foreign degree by the time the employment decision is made. Desired background includes soundscape, psychoacoustics, environmental acoustics, engineering acoustics, acoustic design, or a closely related area. Experience with soundscape prediction, design, or evaluation; psychoacoustic or perceptual modelling; auralization; listening tests; VR-based or other human-subject experiments; or analysis of urban, indoor, or vehicle sound environments is expected. Additional merits include a strong publication record, recent PhD completion, experience with acoustic metamaterials or metasurfaces, and skills in machine learning, optimization, signal processing, numerical acoustic simulation, and programming or data analysis in Python, MATLAB, Julia, or similar tools.
