About this position

Postdoc on Stable Optical Circuits for Quantum Technology at the University of Amsterdam, Faculty of Science, Institute of Physics, in the Strontium Quantum Gases Group led by Prof. Dr. Florian Schreck. This postdoctoral role focuses on optics, ultracold atoms, trapped ions, quantum technology, and the development of robust optical circuits for quantum applications.

The project aims to robotically manufacture and iterate advanced optical circuits and systems, including gain media, active positioning elements, cavities, spectroscopy cells, photonic integrated circuits, laser lock circuits, and laser sources. The work is highly experimental and engineering-oriented, combining optics, electronics, software, prototyping, testing, validation, and scalable production workflows. The team collaborates with the Nonlinear Nanophotonics group at the University of Twente and with the spin-off company OpticsFoundry B.V., with the possibility of joining the company if the project succeeds.

Eligibility highlights: a recent PhD in experimental atomic, molecular and optical physics; strong optics background; some experience with electronics and control software; initiative; time management; teamwork; and good English communication skills.

Funding and contract: temporary employment for 12 months, 38 hours per week. Salary ranges from €3,546 to €5,538 gross per month (scale 10), plus 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% year-end allowance. The Dutch 30% ruling may apply to non-Dutch applicants.
