About this position

Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin is advertising a Postdoc (m/f/d) in structural biology and cryo-electron tomography at the Institute of Medical Physics and Biophysics in Germany.

The project sits in the research group of Prof. Christian Spahn and focuses on in situ structural biology, cryo-electron tomography, cryo-electron microscopy, digital image processing, and molecular cell biology. The group studies the structure, function, and regulation of macromolecular machines and complexes, with particular emphasis on protein biosynthesis, translational control, and ribosome biogenesis and assembly.

The role includes designing and implementing research projects, further developing and applying cryo-EM/cryo-ET methods, participating in national and international collaborations, supporting staff and collaboration partners, and contributing to teaching duties in German for human medicine and dentistry.

Applicants should have a completed PhD in a relevant field such as life sciences, biochemistry, biophysics, biology, chemistry, or physics. The post also asks for publications in leading international peer-reviewed journals, experience in cryo-EM and digital image processing, and strong communication, teamwork, analytical, and independent working skills. Experience in in situ structural biology, cryo-electron tomography, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or cell culture is beneficial but not mandatory.

The application deadline is 03 September 2026. Interested candidates should use the Charité careers link to view the full vacancy and apply online.
