About this position

Postdoctoral position at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering on the structural performance of polymers in an alkaline electrolyzer.

The project focuses on long-term failure models, durability, and lifetime prediction for selected engineering thermoplastics used in alkaline electrolysis for green hydrogen production. The work is carried out in close collaboration with industrial partner Alquion and has a strong experimental character.

Research topics include polymer degradation under elevated temperature, sustained mechanical stress, and chemical exposure to potassium hydroxide (KOH) in pressurized electrolysis systems. The goal is to understand mechanical lifetime over 10–20 years and to develop accurate models that predict failure modes and performance over time.

Applicants should have a strong research track record, be able to work in an interdisciplinary team, and be comfortable coaching PhD and Master's students. Excellent English communication skills, leadership, and the ability to manage complex projects are required.

The position is full-time for 1 year. Salary is in accordance with Dutch university collective labour agreement scale 10 / postdoc scale, with a gross monthly salary of €4,422 to €5,760, plus holiday allowance and year-end bonus. Additional benefits include pension, leave, training, and support for commuting, working from home, and international relocation/expat matters.

Location: Eindhoven, Netherlands. Application deadline: 16 November 2026. Apply online via the TU/e vacancy portal and include a cover letter, CV with publications and three references, and up to five best publications.
