About this position
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate in synthesis and (radio)chemical separations within the Chemical Separations Group, Chemical Sciences Division, Physical Sciences Directorate.
The project focuses on organic synthesis, coordination chemistry, radiochemistry, and chemical separations for the development of new molecules that chelate and separate metal ions relevant to isotope production and energy. Research topics include selective binding of rare earth elements, alkaline earth elements, and anions, plus application of these chelators in solid-liquid and liquid-liquid separation schemes.
The postdoc will work with a multidisciplinary team spanning organic and inorganic synthesis, thermodynamics, laser spectroscopy, materials characterization, computational chemistry, and nuclear chemistry. The lab environment includes advanced instrumentation such as ICP-MS, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, potentiometric titrators, UV-vis and NMR spectroscopy, HPLC, and radiochemistry facilities for alpha, beta, and gamma-emitting isotopes.
