About this position
Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate in radiopharmaceutical chelator development within the Chemical Separations Group, Chemical Sciences Division, Physical Sciences Directorate.
The project focuses on organic synthesis and coordination chemistry to develop novel chelation platforms for s-, p-, and f-block radioactive ions used in nuclear medicine. The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team spanning organic and inorganic synthesis, thermodynamics, laser spectroscopy, materials characterization, chemical separations, computational chemistry, and nuclear chemistry.
Research activities include design, synthesis, characterization, and evaluation of chelators; multi-step gram-scale synthesis; purification and scale-up; and analytical characterization using NMR, UV-vis, FT-IR, mass spectrometry, HPLC, radio-TLC, radio-HPLC, potentiometric titrimetry, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The work is aimed at targeted radionuclide therapy and cancer imaging, with results expected to lead to high-impact publications and conference presentations.
Eligibility: Applicants must hold a PhD in chemistry, nuclear chemistry, or a related discipline completed within the last five years. Strong independent synthetic research experience is preferred, especially with complex molecules and chelators. Radiochemistry experience is helpful but not required; willingness to learn radiochemical techniques is essential. Candidates must also meet ORNL/DOE access and background requirements.
