About this position

TU Delft is advertising a Postdoc in the Epistemology of Moral Experiences in Technology within the project Techno-Moral Experience and the Foundations of Design for Values (TechnoMoralXP). The project sits at the intersection of philosophy, ethics of technology, moral epistemology, metaethics, and philosophy of emotion, with a strong connection to Design for Values and Value Sensitive Design.

The postdoc will work closely with Dr James Hutton and Prof. Ibo van de Poel to develop the philosophical foundations of the project. The role focuses on conceptualising techno-moral experiences, analysing how they can justify design decisions, and identifying their limitations. The successful candidate will also help connect this work to a second postdoc developing a practical design toolkit.

This is a 3-year temporary position at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, with a workload of 36–40 hours per week. Salary and benefits follow the Dutch university collective agreement, with a salary range of €3706–€5760. Benefits include an ABP pension, flexible working, leave hours, training opportunities, partially paid parental leave, and a health-insurance discount.

Applicants should have a PhD in philosophy (completed or near completion), strong research and writing skills, excellent English, and an interest in interdisciplinary work linking abstract epistemology to applied design questions. The application deadline is 15 November 2026. Apply online with a cover letter, CV, writing sample, and PhD certificate/transcript or supervisor statement.
