About this position
Postdoctoral position at the University of Amsterdam in the Amsterdam Mathematical Psychology Laboratory and the Psychological Methods program group, led by Dora Matzke and Andrew Heathcote.
The project, “Next-Generation Cognitive Testing: A Theory-Driven Approach to Multi-Scale Dynamics in Cognition”, is ERC-funded and focuses on cognitive fluctuations, cognitive modeling, Bayesian hierarchical methods, mathematical psychology, and response time modeling. The work combines theoretical model development with empirical research using ecological momentary assessment (EMA) to study how performance changes across timescales from sub-seconds to several weeks.
The postdoc will contribute to adaptive evidence-accumulation models for tasks such as stop-signal and Stroop, integrate these models with learning and biological models of alertness, and implement software for fitting and applying the methods. The role is research-focused, with limited teaching (5% of contracted hours).
Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant field, strong experience with Bayesian hierarchical modeling and evidence-accumulation/response time models, excellent R programming and reproducible software skills, a strong publication record, and excellent English. The appointment is for two years at 38 hours per week, with salary from €4,925 to €6,682 gross per month plus holiday allowance and year-end bonus.
Apply by 3 November 2026 with a CV, motivation letter, and two academic references. Contact Dora Matzke at [email protected] for questions.
