About this position

Postdoctoral opportunity at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Department of Quantum Nanoscience for research in theoretical quantum physics, quantum sensing, and tests of fundamental physics.

The project focuses on developing new analytical and numerical methods for the quantum dynamics of mechanical systems, including interactions with complex environments. The successful candidate will study quantum control, noise mitigation, certification of quantum states, and the fundamental limits of realistic experiments. Research themes include quantum optics, quantum technologies, quantum information, open quantum systems, quantum metrology, continuous-variable quantum systems, Gaussian state formalism, spin-mechanical systems, and foundational questions at the interface of quantum mechanics and gravity.

You will join the newly established theory group of Assistant Professor Julen Simón Pedernales as one of its first postdoctoral researchers. The role emphasizes independent research, creative idea generation, collaboration with students and international partners, and helping build a new research environment.

Eligibility highlights: PhD in Physics or a closely related discipline by the start date; expertise in quantum optics, quantum technologies, quantum information, quantum sensing, or related areas; experience with analytical and numerical modeling; excellent English and communication skills; interest in mentoring and group development.

Application deadline: 15 September 2026. Apply online through the TU Delft careers portal and submit a cover letter and detailed CV with publication list. Applications by email or post will not be considered.
