About this position

The University of Gothenburg is advertising a fixed-term postdoctoral position in Type theory and programming languages within the Logic and Types unit of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The position sits in a highly international environment, with the department jointly connected to the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology, and is based in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The research project focuses on the compilation of cubical type theory: building a compiler that translates cubical type theory into executable code, while also proving the compiler correct. An additional goal is to support erasure, i.e. removing computationally irrelevant code. This is a research-heavy postdoc designed for someone interested in the intersection of logic, type theory, formal verification, and programming language implementation.

The appointment is for 24 months at 100% full time. The successful candidate will conduct high-quality research, publish in leading international venues, and work both independently and collaboratively in the Logic and Types research group. Teaching duties may account for up to 20% of the workload and can include supervision of Bachelor's and Master's thesis projects, with possible co-supervision of PhD students.

Eligibility requires a doctoral degree in a relevant area such as computer science, or an equivalent foreign degree. The university states that preference is given in the first instance to candidates who completed their degree within the last three years, although some exceptions may apply for special grounds. Strong candidates are expected to have an excellent publication record, experience with cubical type theory, and ideally experience in programming language implementation or compilation. English is the working language for research, so fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory.

The advertised start date is 2026-11-05 or as mutually agreed. Applications must be submitted through the university recruitment portal by 2026-09-29. Required documents include a CV with publication list, prior teaching and pedagogical experience, two references, a personal letter describing research background and future plans, and attested copies of degrees and certificates.

Contact persons for the project and recruitment are listed in the notice: Nils Anders Danielsson, Richard Torkar, and Jenny Lind, all at the University of Gothenburg.

Candidates should preferably have completed the degree no more than three years before the application deadline, unless special grounds apply. Competitive applicants are expected to have a strong background, an excellent publication record, experience with cubical type theory, and ideally experience in programming language implementation or compilation. Experience supervising doctoral or master's students and teaching in third-cycle courses is considered a merit. English fluency, both spoken and written, is mandatory.
