About this position

Radboud University is advertising a postdoc position in usable privacy-enhancing technologies and attribute-based identity wallet technology within the European REAL-PETS project.

The postdoctoral researcher will work on two connected research tracks: (1) studying the usability of real-world privacy-enhancing technologies such as VPNs and other PETs through user studies, and (2) designing and prototyping a privacy-preserving age-verification solution based on attribute-based credentials and identity wallet technology. The project focuses on strengthening digital privacy, privacy-preserving digital identity, and trustworthy online technologies.

The position is based in the Digital Security (DiS) group at the Institute for Computing and Information Sciences (iCIS), within Radboud University’s Faculty of Science, and is also connected to iHub, the university’s interdisciplinary hub on digitalisation and society. The work is interdisciplinary and involves collaboration with researchers and industry partners across Europe.

Applicants should have a PhD in computer science, cybersecurity, or a related field, or expect to obtain one within a few months. Required strengths include solid programming skills, knowledge of cryptographic technologies used in modern identity wallets, expertise in usable security and privacy, and experience with empirical methods such as controlled experiments, surveys, interviews, and qualitative/quantitative analysis. Strong English skills are required; Dutch is not required.

The appointment is 1.0 FTE for two years. The salary is in scale 10 with a gross monthly range of €3,706–€5,760, plus an 8% holiday allowance, an 8.3% end-of-year bonus, extra leave days, and other employment benefits.

The application deadline is 8 November 2026. Apply online via the university’s application portal. The first interviews are scheduled for 18 November, and a second interview may take place on 1 December. The preferred start date is 1 April 2027.
