About this position

MAX IV and Lund University are recruiting a postdoctoral researcher for the BatMAX PostDoc at MAX IV (XRD-CT) project in Lund, Sweden. The position is hosted by the Division of Solid Mechanics at Lund University and is carried out in close collaboration with the DanMAX beamline, the BatMAX hub, and the wider MAX IV Battery Matrix.

The research focuses on X-ray diffraction computed tomography (XRD-CT) for battery research, especially Na-ion solid-state batteries. The project aims to optimize scanning methods, hardware, scan sequencing, and analysis software to improve temporal and spatial resolution, and to develop iterative reconstruction and noise suppression algorithms. The role combines beamline development, experimental research, user support, and scientific collaboration across multiple beamlines and universities.

Applicants should have a PhD in chemistry, physics, engineering, or a closely related subject, with proven experience in X-ray imaging/diffraction methods such as XRD-CT, 3D-XRD, µ/nanoCT, or STXM. Programming skills, especially Python, are required, along with the ability to work independently and in a team, excellent English, and strong communication skills. Experience with tomographic reconstruction, synchrotron or neutron experiments, electrochemistry, batteries, solid-state or Na-ion chemistries, and user-facility support are considered merits.

This is a full-time, fixed-term postdoc for 2 to 3 years, funded through the COMPEL national strategic initiative. The application deadline is 31 August 2026. Applicants must submit through the Varbi recruitment portal and complete the selection questions as part of the application.
