Postdoc-position: Assessment of the environmental impact of circular bioengineering with a focus on the aquatic realm (Project PD 4.2) BOKU University in Austria

Postdoctoral position in the Cluster of Excellence Circular Bioengineering at BOKU University in Vienna, Austria, focused on the assessment of the environmental impact of circular bioengineering with a particular emphasis on the aquatic realm.

The position is part of Program 4, Circular Prospects, where novel processes and materials are investigated through interdisciplinary collaboration connecting analytical chemistry, environmental sciences, and social ecology. The successful candidate will investigate and assess potential environmental issues associated with circular bioengineering by exploiting and interpreting analytical results generated within the program. Responsibilities also include documenting scientific results and presenting them through publications, conference contributions, and reports.

The postdoc is embedded in the broader Cluster of Excellence Circular Bioengineering and maintains close ties with research groups developing processes and bio-based materials in Program 1. This makes the role especially relevant for researchers interested in the environmental fate, sustainability, and impact assessment of innovative bio-based technologies and materials.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Chemistry or equivalent and have an outstanding academic record. Strong expertise is expected in one or more of the following: environmental chemistry, environmental sciences, and environmental analysis. Additional strengths include excellent academic writing, excellent English (spoken and written), advanced chemometrics, analytical data interpretation, and visualization skills. Knowledge of generative AI tools and AI-supported research workflows is welcomed. The role also requires independent scientific work, flexibility, willingness to work in an interdisciplinary environment, resilience, and strong organizational skills.

Supervision: Main supervisor is Univ.Prof.Dr. Stephan Hann. Additional supervisors are Assoc.Prof. Dr. Teresa Steininger Mairinger and Univ.Prof. Dr. Gunda Koellensperger.

Location: Institute of Analytical Chemistry, BOKU University, Vienna, Austria.

Contract: 22 months, full-time (40 hours/week). Salary is stated as a minimum gross monthly salary according to the Austrian university collective agreement, B1 salary group.
