About this position

Postdoc opportunity at Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, within the BrainEcho Lab in the Department of Neuroscience.

The project focuses on 4D ultrasound for image-guided neurosurgery, aiming to develop the next generation of intraoperative neurosurgical image guidance. The work addresses real-time, volumetric visualization of brain vasculature during procedures and combines biomedical imaging, ultrasound physics, signal processing, beamforming, hardware/software integration, and clinical translation.

Responsibilities include prototype development for the first intraoperative 4D ultrasound system, algorithm design for high-frame-rate imaging, collaboration with neurosurgeons for validation, and dissemination through journals and conferences.

Applicants should have a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Strong skills in systems development, ultrasound physics, signal processing, and programming in MATLAB and Python are required; C++ and CUDA/GPU programming are a plus. English fluency is required; Dutch is optional.

The position is a temporary appointment for 3 years with a gross monthly salary of €3,724–€5,867 plus benefits such as a 13th month, travel package, and pension contributions.

Deadline: 13 September 2026. Contact: Pieter Kruizinga ([email protected]).
