Postdoc - Targeting Allergic Hypersensitivity University of Basel in Switzerland

The Department of Biomedicine at the University of Basel is advertising a postdoctoral position in the Wymann lab focused on targeting allergic hypersensitivity. The project sits within a highly collaborative biomedical environment at the University of Basel and University Hospitals, bringing together basic and clinical researchers working on innovative therapies for unmet medical needs.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team studying major stress and lipid kinase signaling pathways in allergy, chronic inflammation, cancer, and metabolic disease. The work combines biochemical, cellular, and mouse genetic studies with interaction with chemists developing novel bioactive small molecules. The project aims to elucidate molecular intra- and extracellular signaling mechanisms that modulate myeloid cell immune responses, with a translational goal toward clinical applications.

Research activities include elucidating GPCR, cytokine, and immunoglobulin downstream signaling in inflammatory and metabolic networks; conducting functional immune-cell assays and biomarker detection/identification in vitro and in vivo; assessing responses using FACS, high-content imaging microscopy, proteomics, and transcriptomics; identifying targetable signaling nodes; and setting up in vitro and in vivo validation workflows for novel small molecules. The role also includes scientific writing, patent and regulatory report preparation, and personal career and leadership development with mentoring responsibilities.

The position is based at the Department of Biomedicine, Mattenstrasse 28, 4057 Basel, Switzerland. Funding support is provided through Innosuisse, and salary is determined according to University of Basel staff regulations and the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Eligibility highlights include a PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Immunology, or another relevant life-science field, along with strong experience in immunology, allergy, FACS, and mouse models. Applicants must also hold an LTK module 1 rodent course certificate (Switzerland) or a FELASA function A/C/D certificate (EU), including required continuing education. A strong publication record and/or patents are expected.
