About this position

Argonne National Laboratory is recruiting a Postdoctoral Appointee in Electrochemistry within the Applied Materials Division (AMD), Emergent Materials and Processes Group, at its campus in Lemont, Illinois, USA.

The project focuses on metallization and decarbonized metal production, with research spanning aqueous electrolysis, non-aqueous electrolysis, and molten salt electrolysis. The appointee will conduct R&D to improve electrolysis processes through electrolyte development and physico-chemical property determination of candidate systems. The role also includes technical work on new processes for metals production and processing, preparing formal reports, giving presentations, and publishing research results.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should have a recent or soon-to-be-completed PhD (typically within the last 0–5 years) in chemistry, materials science, metallurgy, electrochemistry, electrometallurgy, chemical engineering, or a related field. Strong experience in electrochemistry, electrochemical analysis, and electrodeposition of metals is required, along with familiarity with aqueous, non-aqueous, and molten salt electrolyte formulations and performance-enhancing additives. Experience with materials synthesis, plating, solution-based processing, glovebox operation, and safe handling of air-sensitive chemicals is also requested.

Work arrangement: this is a full-time, long-term fixed-term postdoctoral role requiring on-site presence five days per week at Argonne’s Lemont campus.

Funding: the expected hiring range is $72,879–$121,465, and comprehensive benefits are included.

How to apply: use the Apply button on the Argonne Careers posting and submit the application online. For application support, the posting lists [email protected].
