About this position

Sandia National Laboratories is advertising a Postdoctoral Appointee position in Neuromorphic Device Physics, Chemistry and Applications at its Livermore, California site.

The project sits in the Materials Physics Department and focuses on connecting device physics to computer science applications within a large multidisciplinary effort spanning departments and universities. The researcher will prototype and test new memory devices, study their physical properties, and evaluate their usefulness for executing computer algorithms, including matrix operations and other neuromorphic-inspired algorithms.

Research activities include materials synthesis, clean room fabrication, low- and high-temperature electronic transport measurements, electrical testing of device structures, noise characterization, and development of new physics models. The role also involves measuring electrical, chemical, and thermal properties of devices and presenting results at national and international conferences.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD in physics, electrical engineering, materials science, or a closely related field; hands-on experience in electronic materials synthesis and electronic properties measurement; and a publication record in peer-reviewed journals plus conference presentations. Preferred experience includes resistive random-access memory or other computing devices, electrochemistry, neuromorphic computing algorithms, Python, FPGA-based testing setups, and analog computing circuits.

Location: onsite at Sandia Livermore. Position length: temporary for up to one year, with possible renewal at Sandia's discretion for up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment.

Application: apply through the Sandia job portal using Job ID 698553 and the Apply Now link. The posting states it will remain open for at least three calendar days from the posting date.
