About this position
MIT is advertising a Postdoctoral Associate position in the Department of Chemical Engineering within the Varchanis Research Group. The project centers on theoretical and computational research on multiphase flows involving complex fluids interacting with gases, other fluids, or solids, with attention to how these systems respond to changes in material properties and environmental conditions.
The role includes conducting original research in computational fluid dynamics and/or computational mechanics, developing and maintaining scientific software, analyzing data, preparing manuscripts and conference presentations, and contributing to group and department-wide activities. The postdoc will also mentor graduate students and help with training and guidance in the group.
Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline. Strong skills in mathematical modeling, scientific computation, algorithm development, software development, and data analysis are required. Experience with non-Newtonian fluid mechanics, interfacial flows, fluid-structure interactions, and constitutive modeling of complex fluids or active matter is highly desirable. The post also asks for strong communication skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment with experimentalists.
Funding and terms: this is a full-time postdoctoral appointment with a posted pay range of $73,308 to $90,000. Visa sponsorship is available. The appointment is for one year and may be renewed depending on performance.
How to apply: submit a cover letter, CV with publications list, and two letters of recommendation through the application portal. After submitting, email Stylianos (Stelios) Varchanis at svarch@mit.edu. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
Funding details
Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
How to apply
Please submit your application including a cover letter, CV, academic transcripts, and contact information for two references. Applications should be sent via the online portal before the deadline.
