About this position

Yale University is recruiting a Postdoctoral Associate for Archaia: the Yale Program for the Study of Global Antiquity, with a secondary appointment as a Lecturer in an appropriate department. The appointment begins in the academic year 2027–2028, is initially for one year, and may be renewed for a second year after successful review.

This opportunity is designed for scholars working on global antiquity, cross-disciplinary humanities research, and related study of early and pre-modern cultures and civilizations. Archaia connects scholars and graduate students across Yale’s Humanities and Social Sciences, including the Divinity and Law Schools, and draws on major collections and libraries such as the Yale University Art Gallery, Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Peabody Museum of Natural History, and the Institute for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage.

Relevant fields include Classics, Archaeology, Anthropology, History, Religious Studies, History of Art, East Asian Languages and Literatures, Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, and related areas. The program welcomes innovative and cross-disciplinary proposals, including topics such as environmental humanities, ancient music, comparative linguistics, ancient comparative law, ritual, digital humanities, embodiment, writing, and materiality.

The postdoctoral associate will participate in Archaia programming, serve on the Steering Committee, mentor graduate students, coordinate the graduate certification program, and teach or co-teach seminars and/or study tours. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field and show a commitment to cross-disciplinary or cross-cultural research, collaborative work, and strong organizational ability.

Funding is a paid, benefits-eligible postdoctoral appointment with compensation aligned to Yale policy and experience. Applications are submitted through Interfolio. The review of applications begins 2026-12-01.
