About this position
Rice University’s McHugh Lab in the Department of Bioengineering is recruiting a Postdoctoral Associate in immunology and novel vaccine development in Houston, Texas, United States.
The project is centered on a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation–funded interdisciplinary effort to develop a controlled-release vaccine delivery platform using the PULSED system. The postdoc will help create combination vaccines by encapsulating a next-generation polio vaccine and studying how release timing can reduce immunological interference. Work includes in vitro antigen stability and release, ELISA-based assays, in vivo immune-response experiments, data analysis, and collaboration with a materials-focused postdoc and a research technician.
This is a full-time, on-site position at Rice University. The appointment is initially one year and may be renewed depending on performance and funding. Project funding is secured through August 2027, and salary will follow NIH postdoctoral stipend guidelines and be commensurate with experience.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or other doctoral degree in immunology, biomedical engineering, bioengineering, vaccinology, biology, or a related field. Required skills include foundational training in humoral and cellular immune characterization assays, familiarity with flow cytometry and ELISA, exposure to in vivo protocol development, and strong written/oral communication. Prior animal-model experience is strongly preferred, and mentoring or translational research interest is a plus.
Apply via Rice University’s candidate portal and upload a resume/CV in the Supporting Documents section, preferably as a PDF. The posting is open until filled, with an expected end date in May 2026.
