About this position
Duke University is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Associate in the Departments of Mathematics and Biostatistics & Bioinformatics, based in Durham, North Carolina, United States.
This postdoctoral opening is part of a new NIH-funded Center for Excellence in Multiscale Immune Systems Modeling. The research focuses on mathematical modeling of Epstein–Barr Virus (EBV) and HIV-1 infection dynamics in human lymphoid tissue, with emphasis on the development, calibration, and analysis of multiscale agent-based models (ABMs) and differential equation models. The project uses longitudinal experimental data, including multiplexed spatial proteomics and transcriptomics, from microfluidic lymph node on-a-chip systems.
The postdoc will work with an interdisciplinary mentoring team spanning mathematics, biostatistics, molecular genetics, biomedical engineering, microbiology, and immunology. Named collaborators include Kevin Flores, Micah Luftig, Cliburn Chan, John Hickey, Jessica Conway, and Elliott SoRelle.
Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a Ph.D. in applied mathematics, computational biology, quantitative biology, or a related field. Required experience includes ABM development, ODE/PDE modeling and analysis, parameter estimation or statistical inference, and strong programming skills. Preferred/related expertise includes Bayesian inference, likelihood-free inference, uncertainty quantification, identifiability analysis, and scientific machine learning.
Funding and appointment: the position is a postdoctoral associate appointment with an initial term of one year and possible renewal depending on project needs and available funding. The post is associated with an NIH-funded center.
How to apply: submit a cover letter, CV, research statement, and three professional references through Duke's careers portal. The application link is provided in the post.
