About this position
University of Maryland, College Park is recruiting a fully funded Postdoctoral Associate in mixed-methods, community-based gun violence research within the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice (CCJS).
The postdoc will work under the mentorship of Dr. Rod K. Brunson and contribute to a research program focused on gun violence, public safety, and community-engaged scholarship in the region, including Baltimore City, the District of Columbia, and Prince George’s County. The role includes study design, IRB protocol submission, identifying external funding opportunities, face-to-face interviews, survey administration, data management, manuscript preparation, and dissemination of findings.
This is a two-year appointment based on the College Park campus and is not remote/telework. The position is only open to Maryland residents and residents of contiguous states (VA, WV, DE, PA) and Washington, D.C.
Eligibility highlights: Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a related field awarded within the past 5 years; no prior postdoc appointment longer than 6 years; no tenure-track professional appointment. Strong English communication skills, experience with data management and analytical software, knowledge of U.S. gun violence research, and strong qualitative interview skills are required. Preference is given to candidates with a strong publication record and culturally sensitive research experience with vulnerable populations.
Funding: Salary range is $75,000-$90,000.
