About this position

Postdoctoral Fellow opportunity at The University of Texas at Austin in the Bureau of Economic Geology, based at the J.J. Pickle Research Campus in North Austin, United States.

This one-year, in-person postdoctoral position focuses on advanced EOR formulation and interface physics in nanoporous rocks (shale). The successful candidate will join a research group working on experimental and modeling approaches that connect laboratory-scale physics to field-scale implementation, with applications in energy security, efficiency, and sustainability.

Research topics include: high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) injection and microscale huff-and-puff experiments; CO2, gas, and chemical EOR performance; wettability and interfacial tension (IFT); surfactant chemistry; colloidal stability and rheology of surfactant-nanoparticle suspensions; CO2-co-solvent blends; foam conformance control; and transport in unconventional reservoir rocks.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a PhD in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Geological Engineering/Geosciences, Materials Science, Interfacial Science, or a closely related field. Strong hands-on HPHT laboratory experience is required, especially with CO2 and shale oil/gas systems, high-salinity brine, high-pressure pumps, and fluid handling. The post also requires proven expertise in fluid-fluid and fluid-rock characterization, strong technical writing, and a publication record in top-tier journals. The PhD must have been earned within 3 years of the hire date.

Funding: the position is backed by newly secured project funding and offers a salary of $65,000+ depending on qualifications.

How to apply: submit your application through the Workday posting. Prepare a resume/CV, a letter of interest, and three work references with contact information. Current UT Austin employees and contingent workers must apply through Workday using Find UT Jobs and upload required materials in the application questions.
