About this position

Postdoctoral Fellow opportunity at The University of British Columbia (UBC Okanagan, Kelowna, BC) in human biomechanics, wearable sensors, and motion capture.

The project is part of the Human Comfort Research Cluster and involves collaboration between UBC and lululemon Athletica to advance the science of human comfort in sports bras through biomechanics, wearable sensing, and motion capture.

Research activities include controlled human-subject trials using Vicon motion capture, wearable sensors (IMUs, pressure, strain, accelerometers), questionnaires, and analysis of breast motion, tissue deformation, pressure, garment strain, and comfort during dynamic activities.

The role also includes validating and advancing a modular biomechanical torso simulator on a hexapod motion platform, generating gold-standard datasets, and developing data-driven and computational methods to evaluate sports bra designs and fabric systems.

Applicants should have a PhD within the last 5 years or near completion in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Kinesiology, Human Factors Engineering, Biomechanics, Computer Science, or a related field. Strong experience in human-subject biomechanics or smart health research, optical motion capture, wearable sensing, statistics, programming, and machine learning is expected.

Funding is provided at $60,000 per year for 1 year, with possible extension depending on funding and performance.

Location: UBC Okanagan campus, Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. Periodic travel to collaborating research sites and partner facilities may be required.

Application deadline: 31 October 2026. Submit a cover letter, CV, and three references by email to [email protected]. Applications are reviewed as received until the position is filled.
