About this position

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Kappe Lab for research on malaria immunology, infectious diseases, vaccine development, and systems immunology.

The lab studies genetically attenuated malaria parasites (GAPs), whole-sporozoite malaria vaccines, host-parasite interactions during liver-stage infection, immune correlates of protection, and translational studies supporting controlled human malaria infection (CHMI) and clinical vaccine trials. Research methods include multiparameter and spectral flow cytometry, CyTOF, ELISA, ELISpot, intracellular cytokine staining, cell sorting, single-cell RNA sequencing, T-cell receptor repertoire analysis, and bioinformatics/statistical analysis in FlowJo, R, and RStudio.

Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in Immunology, Microbiology, Infectious Diseases, Parasitology, or a closely related field; strong cellular and molecular immunology background; experience with infectious disease and/or animal models; and the ability to independently design and interpret experiments. Preferred experience includes malaria parasites, high-dimensional immune profiling, multi-omics, computational immunology, and translational vaccine research.

Ph.D. in Immunology, Microbiology, Infectious Diseases, Parasitology, or a closely related discipline. Strong background in cellular and molecular immunology with expertise in adaptive and/or innate immune responses. Hands-on experience with multiparameter flow cytometry, immune cell isolation, cell culture, and functional immune assays. Experience with infectious disease models and/or animal models of infection and vaccination. Ability to independently design, execute, troubleshoot, and interpret complex experiments. Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills, with a record of peer-reviewed publications. Preferred: experience with malaria or other infectious disease models, FlowJo, R/RStudio, spectral flow cytometry, CyTOF, single-cell RNA-seq, TCR repertoire analysis, bioinformatics, and computational immunology.
