About this position
Postdoctoral Fellow opportunity in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery at the Center for Structural Biology, Center for Cancer Research, National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health. The Monteiro Group is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated postdoctoral researcher to contribute to drug discovery from high-throughput fragment screening.
The research sits at the interface of protein crystallography, enzymology, mechanistic protein biochemistry, organic synthesis, and in silico hit development. Current targets focus on oncometabolic pathways, and the project includes fragment linking, fragment growing, isostere replacement, and synthesis of proposed compounds.
This is a full-time, in-person training position in Frederick, United States, with a starting stipend of $67,200, competitive salary, and comprehensive health insurance. The initial appointment is for one year and may be extended up to five years.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or equivalent, ideally in medicinal chemistry or a closely related field, obtained within the last five years (exceptions possible). Required strengths include synthetic organic chemistry, purification and characterization of small molecules, strong research output, communication, lab record keeping, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary team. Preferred experience includes docking and other modeling tools, protein activity assays, and manuscript preparation.
