About this position

Postdoctoral Fellow position in neuroimmunology and CNS border tissue immunity at the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health (Bethesda, United States).

The Lazarevic Lab is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to study how immune responses are shaped at the borders of the central nervous system during neuroinflammation. The project focuses on how tissue-derived inflammatory cues regulate pathogenic and regulatory immune responses during CNS autoimmunity, with particular emphasis on experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), a model of multiple sclerosis.

Research topics include stromal, myeloid, innate lymphoid, and T cell populations at CNS barrier sites, immune cell activation, tissue adaptation, and disease progression. Methods may include flow cytometry, mouse models of neuroinflammation, adoptive transfer systems, imaging, transcriptomic approaches, and functional immune assays.

Applicants should have a Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in immunology, neuroimmunology, neuroscience, molecular biology, or a related field. Strong experience with mouse models, animal work, flow cytometry, and cellular immunology is required. Experience with T cells, myeloid cells, innate lymphoid cells, stromal cells, tissue-resident immunity, single-cell or spatial transcriptomics, imaging, or computational analysis is especially relevant.

This is a full-time, in-person training position with a starting stipend of $67,200. The lab offers close mentorship, opportunities to develop an independent research direction, publish high-impact work, present at meetings, and prepare for the next stage of a scientific career.

To apply, send a cover letter, CV, and the contact information for three references to Vanja Lazarevic at [email protected]. The post does not list a deadline.

What's required

A Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in immunology, neuroimmunology, neuroscience, molecular biology, or a related field. Strong experience with mouse models of inflammation, autoimmunity, neuroinflammation, or related disease models is required, along with animal work, mouse handling, experimental procedures, tissue collection, and adherence to approved animal protocols. Experience with flow cytometry, immune cell isolation, antibody staining, sample preparation, and data analysis is required. Applicants should have a solid foundation in cellular immunology, especially T cells, myeloid cells, innate lymphoid cells, stromal cells, or tissue-resident immune responses, plus the ability to design, execute, troubleshoot, and interpret experiments independently. Strong organization, attention to detail, communication, collaboration, and motivation in neuroimmunology are expected.
