About this position

Postdoctoral Fellow in Political Science at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, within the Mistra CLEAN research programme.

The project examines the links between institutional failure and environmental challenges, including corruption, policy and regulatory capture, environmental crime, accountability, and institutional resilience. The postdoctoral researcher will contribute mainly to work packages based at the University of Gothenburg, especially on vulnerability analysis and corruption risks, and on the environmental impacts of institutional failure.

Research topics may include corruption and capture, green transition vulnerabilities, regulatory and organizational responses to environmental crime, accountability, institutional resilience, and environmental consequences of institutional failure. The project welcomes a range of methods such as surveys, experiments, registry-based data, quantitative and qualitative text analysis, interviews, administrative and organizational data, and AI-assisted approaches.

The position is based in the Department of Political Science and connected to the Centre for Environmental Political Studies (CEPS) and the Quality of Government (QoG) Institute. It offers a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment with links to political science, criminology, law, computer science, environmental economics, and philosophy.

Eligibility requires a doctoral degree in political science or a closely related field, or an equivalent foreign degree, by the appointment decision date. Applicants should normally have completed the PhD within the last three years, unless special grounds apply. Strong methodological skills, collaborative ability, excellent English, and interest in corruption, climate and environmental politics are emphasized.

The appointment is temporary for 2 years, with possible extension up to 3 years, at 100% full-time. Teaching may be included up to 20% of working time. Salary is individually set.

Applications must be submitted through the University of Gothenburg recruitment portal by 2026-11-19. Required documents include a cover letter, CV with publication list, one writing sample, and at least three references.
