About this position
Postdoctoral fellow in Political Science at the University of Gothenburg, working within the interdisciplinary Gothenburg Research Program on Pregnancy and Politics (PregDem). The position focuses on political behavior, comparative politics, parenthood, pregnancy, health, gender and politics, political participation, representation, and social inequality.
The postdoc will join a research environment that connects political science with obstetrics, reproductive health, epidemiology, and related fields. The projects use rich Swedish register and survey data, including the Swedish Pregnancy Register, Swedish Neonatal Care Register, LISA, and electoral registers. One project studies how having a child affects women’s political participation and representation; another examines perinatal health, care burden, measurement strategies, and inequality in social outcomes.
This is a full-time, two-year appointment with the possibility of a one-year extension. The role is research-focused, with teaching allowed up to one-fifth of working time. The post is based at the Department of Political Science, University of Gothenburg, Sweden.
Eligibility: a doctoral degree in political science or a relevant related subject is required by the time of appointment. Applicants should have strong research competence, excellent English, and the ability to work independently. Experience with quantitative methods, causal or quasi-experimental designs, register data, health registers, longitudinal surveys, and tools such as Stata, R, or Python is highly meritorious. Knowledge of Swedish is not required.
Application deadline: 2026-09-07. Apply via the University of Gothenburg recruitment portal and submit a cover letter, research outline, CV with publications, writing sample, and at least three references.
