About this position
NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) is advertising a 3-year Postdoctoral Fellow position in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering in Trondheim, Norway. The project is part of SFI FAST – Future Aluminium Structures, a national research centre focused on aluminium materials, manufacturing technologies, and circular economy.
The postdoctoral research topic is welding process–performance relationships for recycled aluminium alloys. The work combines welding, materials science, mechanical engineering, aluminium alloys, welding metallurgy, materials characterization, fatigue and fracture testing, and data-driven manufacturing. Main duties include developing arc and solid-state welding parameters, building in-situ monitoring and control systems, evaluating microstructure and mechanical performance, correlating process data with performance, supporting proposal writing, and collaborating with PhD and MSc projects.
The position is embedded in FAST’s welding and structural integrity activities and involves close collaboration with NTNU, SINTEF, and industrial partners across the aluminium value chain. The postdoctoral fellow will report to Prof. Vahid Hosseini and Assoc. Prof. Nima Razavi.
Eligibility highlights: a completed PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Production Technology, Welding Engineering, or a related field; strong documented experience in welding research (fusion and solid-state), fatigue/fracture testing, welding metallurgy, materials characterization, experimental welding, robot programming, and testing; excellent English; and a strong publication record. Candidates who have submitted their thesis or have a confirmed defense date may also be considered.
Funding: the position is funded through SFI FAST and is conditional on external funding. Salary is normally NOK 633,400 per year before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority.
Application deadline: 2026-11-02. Applications must be submitted electronically via Jobbnorge.no with CV, diplomas, transcripts, thesis or draft, project outline, motivation letter, publications, and referee details.
