About this position
Colorado State University is advertising a Postdoctoral Fellow in Wildland-Urban Interface Fire Emissions based in Fort Collins, Colorado, United States. The project focuses on experimental research on gas-phase and particle-phase emissions from burning building materials, vehicles, and household contents relevant to wildland-urban interface (WUI) fires.
The fellow will design and run laboratory-scale combustion experiments at CSU on legacy, modern, and synthetic WUI fuels, operate combustion and aerosol instrumentation, supervise filter and sorbent sampling, perform quality assurance/quality control, analyze datasets, and help prepare manuscripts, conference presentations, reports, and a public emission-factor dataset.
Research keywords: combustion emissions, aerosol measurements, atmospheric science, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, fire science, chemical transport modeling, air quality, emission factors.
Eligibility highlights: a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Atmospheric Science, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field completed by the start date; experience with gas-phase or aerosol measurement instruments; and experience analyzing large experimental datasets in Python, MATLAB, or R. Preferred experience includes combustion emissions, biomass burning, fire science, aerosol mass spectrometry, filter-based sampling, emission factor calculations, publication record, project coordination, and CMAQ or similar models.
Funding: salary is listed at $60,000 to $70,000 annually. The role is full-time and fully in-person/on-site. The posting also notes CSU employee benefits.
Application window: apply by January 15, 2027, 11:59pm MT. Applicants should submit a cover letter and resume/CV through the CSU Workday posting and ensure materials address the required and preferred qualifications.
